In this series, I focused on experimentation with unique and varied materials and how they respond to constant hand manipulation. These runners exemplify hand-manipulated lace techniques and display materials not commonly used for handweaving. In the warp of all the pieces, and in the weft of “Shakes” and “Tribe,” I utilized rayon filament yarns more commonly found in commercial and industrial weaving disciplines. Because they have no twist, and rayon is inherently shiny, these yarns appear almost metallic to the eye, bringing additional texture to the table runners.
