After completing Grifola Frondosa, I was influenced to do more beaded work. In this series, the focus shifted towards working the incorporation of beads and natural materials, and less on the inlay float technique. The monochromatic colors and delicate texture of the lion's mane mushroom inspired me to create these small-scale weavings. The repetitious downward spokes of the mushroom inspired the incorporation of porcupine quills and hand-carved hanging devices. The tapered ends of the wooden dowels holding the weavings were designed to mimic that of the porcupine quills and hair displayed in the weavings, and much like the rest of the natural world: a little crooked, organic yet defined; flowing, but never perfect.
