Jewels

An energetic, enthusiastic textile artist currently located in Denver, Colorado. Roots in mending and making, formal training in fine art. Originally from Reading, Pennsylvania, she was taught garment construction and machine sewing in childhood, and later as a teenager taught herself how to knit as a way to bear the bores of lecture-structured classes. She received her Bachelor’s in Fine Art concentrating in crafts-fibers from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania in 2017. In the years following, her additional experience in textile manufacturing and participation in major craft shows such as the Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show further informed her focus on creating handmade textiles for the home. Currently, the artist operates her independent studio in the city, thick in the throws of finding her sitting place in this new environment.

A word from the maker

Since childhood, I have always had a particular fascination with how people choose to adorn their living spaces. It was commonplace for me to walk through old neighborhoods solely to look at the beautiful, intricate details of each house, peeking inside if I could, to see how other people kept their homes. The concept behind the vast majority of my work has to do with the interaction between the people and the land. Our homes are the environment we choose to surround ourselves with every day. I find immense joy and clarity in making objects with which to adorn our individual cubbyholes, our little slice of land just for ourselves.
